KRAKOW, POLAND SILKSCREEN WORKSHOP (UMBAU)
In the summer of 2016, myself along with 21 other creatives got the opportunity to go to Krakow, Poland to work in a gallery space that we transformed into a low-tech silkscreen studio. We spent two weeks exploring the process, sketching, inking, burning, pulling and learning. At the end of those two weeks, we held a gallery opening for the city. Many came to join in the small gallery space to listen and exchange culture. Language was a barrier but all was understood through art. (2016)
This was 1 of 2 bathrooms we transformed into the burning room where we had a light facing the ground, fastened to a broom stick with fabric we were given from a fiber store down the block. Beneath the light we placed, in order bottom to top, our screen, our image to burn and on top, that glass panel you see on the right. Once all in place, we turned the light on, shut the door and allowed the image to burn for 20 minutes exactly, no more, no less and we had a perfectly burnt image on our screens.
Bathroom #2 where we coated our screens with emulsion.
This was our gallery space we made into our studio. Each of these cut outs had a special place on a design sometime during our trip.
